One Simple Question

September 1, 2008

“Why aren’t we in some developing country using solar panels to provide electricity?”

It’s pretty amazing how asking one simple question can lead to such a wild turn of events.  But it was only a few months ago that I asked this question to Trevor over a beer.  And here we are.

The last month has been interesting to say the least.  We’ve left our jobs, we’ve cancelled our apartment leases, and started taking the little, yet crucial, steps that will make this project a reality (typhoid vaccination, anyone?).  We come up with different ideas almost daily about technology, location, marketing, and even the content of this blog!  It’s really like running a small business…except the part where you budget a salary for yourself.

What has really surprised me is how emotional this venture has become.  Those that know may find this hard to believe as “stoic” is the most often way to describe my moods.  But here I find myself waking up earlier in the morning than when I had a job, talking ad nauseum about what I’m doing to virtual strangers, and generally having all of my thoughts consumed by this venture.  I have never felt so vested in something before in all my life.  And I can probably speak for Trevor in this regard, it’s truly amazing.
